Repetition as an act of devotion: the dance of the Sufis, the rosary of the nuns, mantras. When the body is forced into a harmonious but unnatural rhythm, the mind escapes. It deliriates or rises.
Destruction as an act of devotion: the sacrificial rites of the Aztecs, the sabbath fires, mandalas. We are impermanent creatures, drunk on eternity. Contemplating destruction teaches us to investigate our essence.
Repetition and destruction thus become the basis of all my artistic practice (be it drawing, sculpture, installation or performance)
My work satisfies my need for prayer without religion: to access a sacred, ritual dimension where everyday time and space are forbidden. Where the value of everyday time and space will be (programmatically) set on fire. And in that glorious destruction they are suddenly made visible.
